Spring in Natchez

It is hard to believe that Spring is now here in Natchez. Actually spring has probably arrived in Natchez a few weeks early, but eventhough our winter was very mild, we are always glad to see Spring

Spring means Spring Pilgrimage, the Sympathy of Gardens, azaleas, dogwood and lush green grass. There are many volunteer activities that can be had, not only in the Spring, but all year through. Retirees typically like to get into volunteer activities and I have never seen a City that has more volunteer opportunities than Natchez, MS

If you are thinking of retiring to Natchez or just want to come down to visit; come on down and enjoy our wonderful weather and wonderful people.

We are coming into winter, but that is certainly better than you folks have up North. I know because I lived in Pennsylvania for all of my life until I moved to Natchez 6 years ago.

This year there will ice skating on the Bluff. Can you believe ice skating in Mississippi.

Summer in Natchez

It is almost July and that means fireworks. The City of Natchez hosts the annual firework over the Mississippi River. Also on the 4th weekend is the annual Blessing of the Flotilla on Lake St. John in nearby Ferriday, LA

One of the premier events in Natchez is the Food and Wine Festival held this year on July 29, 30, 31. It us a weekend of unique food, wine, and entertainment held at different venues throughout the City.

Summer time is probably the slowest time of the year for activities, but things will begin to heat up in Sept. Look for my blog in Sept. for further information on the fall activities.

We are very proud of the June 2011 edition of Kiplinger. Mississippi has been listed as the 2nd most tax friendly state for retirees following only Wyoming, but I would have to say unless you like snow, our climate is much more preferable.

Spring in Natchez

What a beautiful time of the year in Natchez, MS and so much going on for people of all ages, but especially the retirees. Our Spring Pilgrimage from March 12-April 16 features 25 antebellum homes; many of them private homes. Beside the tour of homes, there are musical productions: theater, at our award winning Natchez Little Theatre; gospel music; and historical presentations take center stage each evening of Pilgrimage.


The Natchez Powwow, held at the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians is being held this year on March 26-27. The powwow features Native American dancing, food, and crafts "This Powwow is significant because of its location at an actual mound site", said Jim Barnett, director of the Grand Village. " Natchez Indians lived here and danced here and that long history makes this all the more special."


Held each April is the Natchez Bluffs Blues Festival and the Delta Music Festival. This year's Delta Music Festival will be moved to Sept. 10. If you like the Blues, you will love the Bluffs Blues Festival.


May will feature the Symphony of Gardens Tour, although a rather new event, it's becoming a favorite in Natchez. It is a fun filled May 6 and 7. The always popular Natchez Festival of Music, celebrating opera, Broadway and jazz will be celebrated the whole month of May.

Winter in Natchez

Winter in Natchez (Avg. temp 53 degrees) beats the temperatures in the North. (So come on down!) Because of the mild temperatures, there is much to do; both inside and out. Chritmas in Natchez begins on November 26 and goes to January 2. Special holiday events include: Candlelight tours, Concerts, Carriage rides, Nutcracker Puppert shows, Open house and tours at Antebellum homes, Teas, book signings, cooking demonstrations, Little Theatre shows, Ghost tours, and much more. The month of February brings the always popular Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration. This year the dates will be Feb. 24-27, 2011.
