Now that springtime is here in Natchez and the azaleas and dogwoods are in full bloom, a visit would be in order for anyone that is thinking of retirement. You will find that Natchez has about everything to offer that a retiree would want.
Many retirees love to volunteer there time and volunteer opportunities are abundant. There are opportunities available in the tourism industry in the antebellum homes, the hospitals, the library, Habitat for Humanity, the Stewpot (Meals on Wheels) as a driver or server, and our numerous charities.
Natchez also offers golfing, hiking, bicycling, fishing, hunting. walking trails, boating and again about anything you can think off.
We are very tax friendly for retirement benefits and property taxes. The prices of housing is very affordable. Items that all retirees are looking for.
So come on down and let me show you around and introduce you to the City and surrounding area.

Winter in Natchez
We are coming into winter in Natchez, but that doesn;t mean snow or real cold temperatures. After the busy Christmas season, things slow down somewhat. We still have a number of activities especially for retirees.
There will be the 2nd Annual Musical Performance at Auburn on Sunday Feb. 24. featuring an 1812 era musical performance with mint juleps. For more information, see www.auburnmuseum.org.
The Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration is a yearly event that will be held from Feb. 21-24. Each year' celebration follows a different theme. Email NLCC@colin.edu for further information

At any rate come on down to visit us and I think you will be enchanted enough to end up buying a home and staying.

Fall in Natchez
Fall in Natchez for retirees and non retirees means Fall Pilgrimage, Phatwater Kayak Challenge, The Great Mississippi River Balloon Race, Angels on the Bluff, Mississippi Valley Black and Blue Civil War Living History, Art on the Bluff, Wirt Adams Raid into Natchez Reenactment, Auburn Annual Christmas Open House, Ghost Tales around the Campfire, Natchez Antiques Forum (this year's theme: Antiques and War Times:The Spirit of 1812), and the beginning of Christmas in Natchez. Every quarter there are many things to do in Natchez and for a retiree many volunteer opportunities, if you wish
The nice aspect about being retired is that we now have time to do things that we didn't have time to do when we were working. I ask myself many times throughout the year "how did I ever have time to work", but then I was so busy with my work that I couldn't find the time to volunteer. I am sure that is the way many of us were.
So if you are retired or thinking about retiring come on down and see what we are all about. I promise, you will not need a snow shovel, which is one of the reasons we moved from PA to Natchez. Ya'll come on down!

Summer in Natchez
Summer in Natchez is a little more laid back than the other seasons; however, there are a few events of interest. In July, Aug, and Sept., there will be 3 free films shown in the Civil War Film Series. They are part of the Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration. If you are in town for any of those months, call 601-446-1208 for further information.
Summer always brings the Natchez Food and Wine Festival. This year the festival will be held July 27, 28, and 29. It is a great 3 days of some of the best food and drink in the South. Again, if you are in the area, go http://www.natchezfoodandwinefest.com/ for tickets and times of the events.
If you are interested in knives and related collectables, this is the show for you. Also available is some of the finest Confederate swords, guns, and gold items. The show is July 18 at the Natchez Convention Center.
Also, if you are interested in scrape booking, there is a Scrap-N-on-the-River on July 19-21, also at the Convention Center.

Spring in Natchez
It is hard to believe that Spring is now here in Natchez. Actually spring has probably arrived in Natchez a few weeks early, but eventhough our winter was very mild, we are always glad to see Spring
Spring means Spring Pilgrimage, the Sympathy of Gardens, azaleas, dogwood and lush green grass. There are many volunteer activities that can be had, not only in the Spring, but all year through. Retirees typically like to get into volunteer activities and I have never seen a City that has more volunteer opportunities than Natchez, MS
If you are thinking of retiring to Natchez or just want to come down to visit; come on down and enjoy our wonderful weather and wonderful people.

We are coming into winter, but that is certainly better than you folks have up North. I know because I lived in Pennsylvania for all of my life until I moved to Natchez 6 years ago.

Summer in Natchez
It is almost July and that means fireworks. The City of Natchez hosts the annual firework over the Mississippi River. Also on the 4th weekend is the annual Blessing of the Flotilla on Lake St. John in nearby Ferriday, LA
One of the premier events in Natchez is the Food and Wine Festival held this year on July 29, 30, 31. It us a weekend of unique food, wine, and entertainment held at different venues throughout the City.
Summer time is probably the slowest time of the year for activities, but things will begin to heat up in Sept. Look for my blog in Sept. for further information on the fall activities.
We are very proud of the June 2011 edition of Kiplinger. Mississippi has been listed as the 2nd most tax friendly state for retirees following only Wyoming, but I would have to say unless you like snow, our climate is much more preferable.
